Jason Scott

Jason Scott was born in Darwin on 9 October 1967 to nurse Joyce and public servant Len Scott. He has an older sister Michelle, older brother Mark and two younger sisters Natalie and Kylie. Jason attended St Mary's Primary School in Darwin. The family moved to Alice Springs in April 1974 when Jason's father Len accepted a position with NT Health. Jason completed his primary school education at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Primary School in Alice Springs before attending Alice Springs High School and Sadadeen High School.

Growing up in Alice Springs was all about sport. Jason played football, basketball, soccer and cricket representing Alice Springs in football, basketball and soccer. School holidays were spent staying with friends at Hermannsburg, an Aboriginal community 130k west of Alice Springs and Anningie Station north of Alice Springs. He went to boarding school at Sacred Heart College in Adelaide in 1984 and 1985 for Years 11 and 12.

Jason then began a Bachelor of Arts at Flinders University. Half-way through the 3-year degree Jason accepted a position as cadet reporter at the Centralian Advocate in Alice Springs on June 8, 1987. In 1991 he set off backpacking around the world, living and working in the Greek Islands, England and Los Angeles. He spent six months in South and Central America and backpacked through Europe and parts of the Middle East. He returned to Australia and gained some casual employment back at the Centralian Advocate and CAAMA radio (Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association). He then moved to Darwin.

Jason spent the next eight years in Darwin working in various roles with News Limited newspapers. It was in Darwin that Jason met his future wife Tina Lim. Tina is Chinese and was born on Christmas Island. They were married in Darwin in September 1997.

Jason and Tina moved back to Alice Springs in 1999 when Jason accepted the role of Managing Editor at the Centralian Advocate.

Tina, who has a Social Work degree, worked for Family and Children's Services. Their first child, Caleb was born at Alice Springs Hospital in January 2002. Jason, Tina and Caleb then moved to Townsville in June 2003 when Jason was appointed General Manager of North Queensland Newspapers. Their second child, Faith, was born at Townsville's Mater Hospital in January 2007.
